I'm Shamel Hughes, a Grammy Award-winning recording and mix engineer from New York City, and the founder of Hughes Media Group. My goal is simple: make records that hit hard, feel emotional, and translate everywhere, from earbuds to club systems to immersive spatial playback.
I started as an assistant engineer at Quad Recording Studios, then apprenticed under Grammy-winning engineer Tommy Uzzo at Mirror Image Recorders. I recorded and mixed for Busta Rhymes with Flipmode Entertainment, worked as audio engineer and studio coordinator at Alicia Keys' Oven Studios, and later became resident mix engineer at Kensaltown East NYC, operating the Studio Three Dolby Atmos mix room.
Outside the studio, I'm an AV systems integrator and entrepreneur. I'm a Senior Technical Specialist with Livewire Studios and The Rizen Group, Director of Project Management at Two Twelve Enterprises, and business manager for Elle Varner. I've also taught audio for years, including as a Pro Tools certification instructor at the Institute of Audio Research.
